Who Needs to Holiday Abroad?

UK holidays this year are proving we do not need to fly away to enjoy a special treat. Two of my girls came home for August Bank Holiday and we enjoyed sparkling sunshine, an empty beach and swimming with seals! A wonderful mini adventure we will remember for years Holidays in North Devon were booked up quickly as restrictions lifted and families were desperate to get away; but many of our guests have been surprised to discover that a traditional UK beach holiday is more fun than they expected and are unlikely to ever take the family back to their regular Mediterranean "hot spots".

It is SO nice to be able to welcome guests to Southclay and The Annex at last! Three families from Middlesex are the first to enjoy our wonderful facilities and the North Devon Coast this summer. To hear children playing in the garden and in the swimming pool again is priceless.

Coronavirus?... Implications for self catering holidays

Southclay Holidays in North Devon has just committed to ensuring there is a three day break between bookings to enable deep cleaning and to ensure at least 72 hours for any residual virus to become inactive before new guests arrive this Spring. With world economies going into meltdown this week, the timescale of the Coronavirus COVIOD-19 pandemic is just starting to dawn. The travel industry will undoubtedly be hit hard but a self-catering unit offers a really good option to escape the tedium of hunkering down and isolating at home.

Southwest Coastal Footpath 1.

What could be nicer for a winter treat than to get outside for some fresh air and (with a little luck) clear, blue skies like today? The Southwest Coast Path is less than a mile from Southclay and The Annex and inspires us to get out and walk whenever we have a chance. This is the first of a few blogs remembering some highlights from the coast path we have enjoyed over the last few weeks. Of course, Number 1 is at our local patch, Abbotsham Cliffs. Is it muddy in the winter months? Yes, and can be spectacularly slippery in some places BUT the winter light is beautiful, with wonderful reflections and long shadows and often you can get away from the crowds and have the path, the cliffs and the beaches to yourself.

New Year 2020

A New Year's Day Swim at Westward Ho! really launched the year in style! The beach was filled with swimmers yesterday as perhaps 1000 people jumped in the sea and thousands more cheered them on. On even the busiest days in the Summer I have never seen the beach so crowded... With Sandymere flooded there was real problems finding anywhere to park!
