The wealth of facilities at Southclay and The Annex may mean that once you have arrived you are tempted to not to get back in the car all week!
The swimming pool which is shared between the two properties (and occasionally with the owners) is heated with an air-source heat pump throughout the season (Easter - October) It has a delightful sun lounger area overlooking the tennis court and adjacent to a Cornilleau Pro outdoor table tennis table. A selection of rackets, bats, balls, swimming floaties and pool games are supplied for those guests who have energy to burn and want an action-packed holiday. For everyone else... cushions for the sun loungers, perhaps a good book or a jigsaw by the fire in the winter and the private hot tubs (hot all year) provide a delightful sanctuary for some well-deserved R&R.
These properties may have been awarded a 5-star grading, England’s highest award for self-catering accommodation but it is the many extras that make a real difference to everyone's holiday and even the most demanding guest may be surprised to find. The owners have tried to be creative in imagining what may make the difference between a lovely break and a particularly successful and memorable one.
Facilities for Babies/Toddlers:
Highchairs, travel cots, stair gate, food blender and steriliser unit, baby bath, toddler chair and toilet seat and non-slip bath mats all help make travelling away from home with little ones just slightly easier. Baby/toddler floats for the swimming pool and some books and toys make keeping the whole family (even the youngest) entertained a little less stressful.
Facilities for Older Children (and Big Boys?)
The garage has racks for bike storage; wind breaks; surf boards (even some wetsuits); buckets and spades; crabbing lines and prawning nets. There is a small inflatable boat, kites, tennis rackets, and even a portable barbeque to take down to the cliffs. An outside tap is ideal for washing out wetsuits or rinsing off muddy or sandy boots and older children and those of us who don't want to grow up yet LOVE the challenge of a tennis, table tennis or pool tournament!
Facilities for Pets:
We do not advertise as "dog friendly" as we are a five-star property and we do like to maintain out standards of quality and cleanliness. We do however rarely have problems with dog owners and often allow well behaved pets to stay. We ask that dog owners guarantee that…
- Pets will not be allowed in the bedrooms or in the swimming pool/communal areas
- Pets will not be left alone in the house unless secured in a crate
- Owners leave the property inside and out with no sign of any pets after departure.
This does obviously depend on your dog's normal sleeping arrangements and does probably mean a greater commitment to cleaning before you leave but we do not charge extra for dogs if you are happy with our house rules. We have lots of fantastic dog walking nearby and both our properties have some areas with tiled, easy-to-clean floors although Southclay is more suitable for dogs than The Annex as it also has a secure garden. We trust potential guests will be able to decide if the above is acceptable before confirming a booking.
A selection of herbs in the herb garden are perfect for throwing straight on the barbeque or adding to marinades.
Fresh bread in the morning or to come home to after a day sightseeing? A lovely new bread machine is amongst the kitchen gadgets available for you to experiment with. The well-equipped kitchens also includes a full set of stainless steel knives (and a sharpener!); a food processor and blender; silicone bake ware; cookery books, electric scales and a large selection of quality pots, pans, dishes and cooking utensils. Don’t worry…. for the lazy chef there is also a freezer, microwave and dishwasher!
Heating and other Facilities
Wonderful log burners provide a delightfully cosy atmosphere during the winter months (or even just for a treat on a cooler evening in Summer) but the underfloor heating in Southclay and the combination of underfloor heating and radiators in The Annex keep both properties really toasty. Both properties have plenty of hot water 24/7 and the generous living space within the properties means even if you can't be outside so much in stormy weather, both Southclay and The Annex work really well as a winter let with plenty of space for everyone. Solar panels on the roof help do our bit for the environment and there will shortly be external sockets for charging electrical vehicles.
