The annual bonfire party at The Big Sheep in Abbotsham, North Devon did not disappoint this year! Another HUGE bonfire, spectacular firework display and new "fire show" for 2019. The whole village and every road surrounding it was packed with cars last night as hundreds of visitors arrived to enjoy this seasonal treat. Southclay and The Annex's hill - top position ensured we could enjoy the fireworks without battling with the crowds this year. BUT the spectacular sunrise the next morning rivaled any of the spectacular fireworks!
What a mess the cars made of the verges through the village and half way into town, even more chaotic than school pick-up! We made the most of our hill - top position to enjoy the fireworks from a distance this year. Although the atmosphere is always heightened by the crowds and the warmth of the bonfire and we missed the brand new fire show, watching from afar was still a spectacular treat and meant I managed to get to a Rotary committee meeting almost on time!
BUT what a spectacular treat the morning after! No soggy, smouldering ash and spent rockets to deal with... I was absolutely delighted when I put the recycling bins out early thismorning to have an additional breath-taking display in the sky as the sunrise gave a display to rival any bonfire or fireworks! This was the view from the gate of the field opposite Southclay thismorning!
